this is weirdd // no.6

here we go.

if you haven’t seen one of these posts before (or haven’t seen my videos) then lemme tell you what weirdd means. weirdd is an acronym which stands for what i’m watching, eating, interested in, reaching for, downloading and doing.

watching

i’ve gotten back into Once Upon A Time (OUAT) and picked up where i left off in season 4 and i still think it is a great show. although, i don’t know if i’ll be watching season 7 after seeing the preview but i’m enjoying catching up on what i missed!

on the youtube side of things i have been enjoying mango street and jessica kobeissi

eating

before moving out (aka when i was living large) i became super obsessed with having falafel platters. my fav one was made by my dad actually (bless that man) but close second was the halal guys which is right on the tempe campus and is amazing.

interested in

i’ve been extremely interested in my new camera! a few weeks ago i was so happy to be able to purchase my first full frame camera, a nikon d750 and i have been loving it!

reaching for

since moving out i have two things i have been consistently reaching for. fashion wise i have been loving my grey vans slip ons! they are the most comfortable shoes i’ve ever owned and they look cute with everything! not sure why it took me this long to hop on the band wagon, but here we are.

secondly, i have been reaching for my nespresso machine! lemme tell you… i have found my love. i wrote a whole blog post about it so i won’t ramble, but if you need a coffee maker, nespresso is the way to go.

downloading

there are two artists I have been obsessed with and they are sarah close and dua lipa! I love caught up by sarah (but all of her songs have been on repeat, tbh) i’ve been consistently listening to dua lipa’s entire album but I’m still fan girl-ing over new rules.

doing

recently i have been “doing” school. but i’ve also been doing a lot of camera stuff so here is some of that:

what’s been weirdd with you?

nespresso // a review

if you know me, you know this girl doesn’t do anything before coffee. i’m totally that person that spends the $4-$5 dollars a day at my local coffee shop and i’m not ashamed (maybe a little, but i’ve come to terms with it).

now that i’m out in the middle of nowhere gilbert, my options are starbucks (no thanks) or driving out of my way to pay for a coffee from somewhere that isn’t my favorite coffee shop. so i decided i would forgo the purchasing of my coffee and simply purchase an at home machine.

i had a keurig in the past and hated it. it was watery and no matter the coffee i got it was just overall bad. from that i contemplated what i did like and why the keurig didn’t do it for me. i realized i needed espresso so i decided this time ’round i needed something that would give me espresso *enter nespresso machine*

KAW_0008

I got my nespresso from best buy but I price matched it with a target machine so you can find that here. before purchasing this machine i did some research on the overall brand and what people thought of the coffee against normal machines or the keurig. most people seemed extremely loyal to their nespresso machine and i decided I would give it a go.

i got the cheapest machine they offer simply because #college #broke but also because essentially they all brew the same cup of coffee. mine happened to come with a milk frother (which a lot seemed to) so that was a nice bonus, but i’m not a foam fan so it probably won’t get much use.

KAW_0004

as for the actual machine i think it’s really neat. it has a water reservoir so you only have to fill it up every 2-3 cups. it also has two size options so you can have a straight espresso shot or one closer to an americano (i think it’s meant to be a double shot, but it just tastes more watery). it also has a compartment where the old pods fall once they are used so you don’t have to dig out the pods after each use. all of these get a big thumbs ups from me!

as for the coffee i think it is great and exactly what i was looking for! a sampler pack came with my machine so i’ve been working my way through that to find what i like the best but i went ahead and ran up to the nespresso store in scottsdale to sample and purchase some extra pods. i got the intenso iced blend and the roma blend.

KAW_0016

i always have my coffee iced so i tend to brew the pod (with a little sugar in the bottom if i’m craving sweet) and pour that over ice. the secret weapon to great at home coffee is creamer and i love the silk soy coffee creamer!

KAW_0017

overall i am really happy with my nespresso machine! (and so is katelyn who benefits from it as well!) i don’t think i can say that i will never go buy coffee again, but it is exactly what i wanted now that i am far away.

whats your favorite coffee?

move in + first week // back to school

well hello there.

it feels weird to be sitting down to write a blog post because so much has happened in the last few weeks!

i moved into a new house on campus at ASU! because poly used to be a military base we’re lucky to have resident housing options that are actual full houses so i’m living with two other great girls in a three bedroom house! it’s weird being out on my own again after having lived at home last semester; i feel like i have to re-learn how to be on my own and let me tell you it isn’t the easiest thing. i forgot what it was like to cook for myself and think about meals and i forgot how much alone time living without my family gives me.

along with re-learning how to live, i’ve also started my junior year of college! (which is SO weird, i still feel like it’s my first year sometimes) i’m actually super excited for this semester for a change because i think I’m gonna have a lot of fun in my classes and I know a lot of people in them which is always helpful.

but like.. what’s happening with this blog? WELL. a lot. (i hope). keep an eye out here for posts about my house/dorm, my classes and also for any adventures i’m going on! (psst… i’m going to adobe max which is insanely cool if you’ve never heard of it)

i hope you’re doing well and i can’t wait to show you how these next few months pan out ❤

the best tool // back to school

its that time of year again where everyone is going back to school. i came home from work the other night and my sister couldn’t wait to show me her school supply haul.

ever since i bought my ipad pro i no longer have to go buy school supplies. BUT before buying it i did SO much research

today i wanted to tell you about my ipad pro and why i think it is the best tool for any college student.

1. note taking

probably the most beneficial part of the ipad pro is the ease of taking notes. by having everything on the ipad i never have to worry about loosing notes or forgetting a notebook because everything is in the same place.

on top of having everything is one place it also gives you the ability to draw in your notes. this was extremely helpful for me while i was in an anatomy course because my professor was constantly showing us pictures of cells. i could be writing or typing notes and then if I needed to draw something i easily could.

example of my notes

2.  apps

obviously if you have an ipad, you’re going to use apps. for note taking my favorite app is notability and I recommend any college student use it to keep track of everything! i love using this app because i can write on PDF notes my professors have given me, insert pictures, draw my own pictures all while taking notes (written or typed).

when I was a nutrition student I know the iPad would have been useful for apps that taught and showed anatomy and any notecard apps. now as a design student i love using apps like procreate to brainstorm with team members or to make rough drafts of projects i may photoshop later.

3. electronic distribution

if your college experience has been anything like mine you’ll realize that everything is either moving online or already is online. a lot of the times our worksheets were online or assignments needed to be turned in online. the ipad was great for this because you can fill out the online worksheet on the ipad then turn it in and never have to mess with scanning anything. this was also useful when working in teams because I could email team members the sheet of what we had worked on that day instead of everyone taking a picture.

4. books

next we need to talk about the biggest expense when it comes to school supplies: books. i use the kindle app on my iPad to rent digital copies of my book from amazon. it feels weird at first to not be physically be flipping through a book, but the search option on the book makes it much easier to find what you are looking for. (bonus: usually online books are cheaper than the real copy)

5. easy to carry + versatile

finally, the iPad can be a replacement for a bulky laptop. although in my degree there is no way i could forgo my laptop for an iPad but for a lot of degree fields it is an option. whether you are sitting in class taking notes or watching Netflix in bed, the iPad can do both!

although i still recommend carrying paper and pencils for when you need them, i think that the ipad pro is the best tool for a college student in any major! if you have any questions about the ipad pro in relation to school leave a comment on this post!
